Hormones and How

They Affect the Body

Estrogens

Estrogens are classified as Estrogens: Estrone, Estradiol and Estriol.

Sex hormones are necessary for maintaining and development of sexual and reproductive health.

Development of secondary sex characteristics such as development of hips, breasts, menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. are all controlled by estrogens.  All genders make estrogen as it plays an important role in other body systems also.

Estrogens can affect cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, bone and muscle mass, circulation and blood flow, collagen production and moisture in skin, and brain function.

Progesterone

Progesterone is one of the hormones in our body that stimulates and regulates various functions such as maintaining pregnancy. Along with the adrenal glands, it helps prepare the body for conception and pregnancy and regulates the menstrual cycle. It also plays a role in sexual desire. After menopause, progesterone helps offset estrogen's stimulating effects on the endometrium which can increase the risk of endometrial cancer without it's use.

Testosterone

Important for mood, energy levels, sex drive, motivation and other bodily functions. It keeps bones healthy and promotes good cognitive health.
